Q & A:Employment Authorization: Difficulty at Port of Entry

Q. I am an American-Chinese, was traveling with a white salesman to make a service call at a large computer company in Toronto. At the airport, customs/immigration asked us the same questions, I was sent for further questioning, but the salesman was sent through.

The immigration official said they were worried about giving out too many work visas, of which I had no interest.

Does Canada have a problem with non-whites in this regard?

Q & A: Licensing Requirements for Financial Professionals

Q. Campbell/Cohen web site warns that in certain instances the lack of Canadian accreditation may result in the refusal of an application for Canadian Permanent residence.

Is the accreditation for the professions of the:

Auditor,
Accountant, and
Financial analyst

required for the acceptance of the application?

If yes, would the US CPA license suffice?

Labour Force Survey, September 1999

Employment rose by an estimated 64,000 in September, bringing gains so far this year to 173,000 (+1.2%). September’s job growth resulted in a drop in the number of unemployed, causing the unemployment rate to fall 0.3 points to 7.5%, its lowest level since June 1990.

Case Comment: “Usually Required”

Applicants who apply for a Canadian Permanent Resident Visa under the “Skilled Worker” category are assessed under a “points” system. Under current Federal Selection Criteria, applicants are awarded “units of assessment” for a number of objective factors, such as age, education, occupational background and language ability.
