Q.Is it possible to be refused on the grounds that your intended occupation’s is only one point?
Answer: An immigration official is not at liberty to interpret the occupational demand for an occupation on the General Occupations List. Negative discretion may be invoked if it is believed that the candidate is not likely to succeed in Canada, based on his/her own characteristics.
Any occupation which appears on the General Occupations List is perceived to be in demand in Canada. On this basis, applicants may apply in the skilled worker program. The range of scores between 1 and 18 units, therefore, is not a quantitative assessment of the occupation’s demand in Canada.
