Nova Scotia held a new draw for 312 Express Entry candidates with eligible work experience as early childhood educators and assistants on June 3.

The invitations were issued through the Labour Market Priorities Stream, which allows Nova Scotia to search the federal Express Entry pool for candidates with eligible work experience in an occupation that is facing labour market shortages in the province.

Situated on Canada's scenic Atlantic coast, Nova Scotia welcomed a record number of new permanent residents to the province in 2018, including many who arrived through the Nova Scotia Nominee Program (NSNP).

The NSNP allows Nova Scotia to nominate a set number of immigration candidates for Canadian permanent residence each year through eight streams tailored to specific economic needs in the province.

Three of these streams are linked to the Express Entry system, which manages the pool of candidates for three of the of Canada's main economic-class immigration categories — Federal Skilled Worker Class, Federal Skilled Trades Class and the Canadian Experience Class.

Express Entry candidates who are approved for a provincial nomination from Nova Scotia receive an additional 600 points toward their Express Entry Comprehensive Ranking System score and are effectively fast-tracked for an invitation to apply for Canadian permanent residence.

In order to be considered for a provincial nomination through Nova Scotia's Labour Market Priorities Stream, the first required step is to enter a profile in the Express Entry pool.

The June 3 draw was the second through the Labour Market Priorities Stream to target Express Entry candidates with work experience in National Occupational Classification 4214 — Early childhood educators and assistants.

Other selection criteria included:

  • proof that a candidate has received post-secondary education in early childhood education for children aged 0 to 8 years;
  • proof that a candidate has completed a program of two or more years at a university, college, trade or technical school, or other institute; and
  • letters of reference from employers to demonstrate proof of a minimum of five years of work experience in NOC 4214.

The NSNP said those selected on June 3 submitted their Express Entry profile on or after August 8, 2018.

Other details on the draw and those selected can be found here.

The Labour Market Priorities Stream has now been used four times since its creation in August 2018. Apart from the two invitations rounds for early childhood educators,  the stream has targeted financial auditors and accountants and Express Entry candidates who listed French as their first official language.
