Claresholm in Alberta has revealed its list of designated employers under the Rural Community Immigration Pilot (RCIP).

Under the RCIP, a foreign national must have a job offer from a designated employer in a participating community in order to apply for permanent residence (PR).

Assess your eligibility for the RCIP

The town of Claresholm is located south of Calgary. It is participating in the RCIP with a 25 km boundary which includes Granum and Stavely.

The community has clarified that the employers listed above that are not currently hiring are using the RCIP to support PR applications for their existing temporary foreign worker employees. Candidates are advised not to contact these employers for job opportunities.

The community will continue to update its list of designated employers.

All employers hiring through the RCIP will be required to list the position on the Canada Job Bank. Those who are interested in the pilot can find job postings there and cross-reference them with the designated employer list.

Claresholm has been allocated 30 spots under the RCIP for 2025. To manage demand, the community will release four slots each month. Any unused spots will be carried forward towards the end of the year.

Who can apply for Claresholm RCIP?

Apart from having a job offer from one of the above-mentioned employers in Claresholm, foreign nationals will need to meet other criteria in order to qualify for the RCIP.

They will need to be working within the pilot’s priority occupations listed here.

They will also need to meet other RCIP criteria regarding work experience, language proficiency, education, and settlement funds.

Once a foreign national meets the eligibility criteria, they must work with their designated employer to create an application package which the employer can submit to the Claresholm EDC.

If they meet all the requirements and their job offer has been approved by the EDC, the foreign national can apply directly to the federal government for PR. They are also eligible for a Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA)-exempt work permit (if needed) while their PR application is being processed.
