Manitoba held its latest provincial nominee program draw on March 12, inviting a total of 222 immigration candidates to take the next step toward permanent residence.

The Manitoba Provincial Nominee Program (MPNP) held its 85th Expression of Interest (EOI) draw, inviting candidates from the following three immigration streams:

There were also 17 Express Entry candidates who received invitations, known as Letters of Advice to Apply (LAAs) in this draw.

LAAs for Express Entry candidates

Express Entry manages the applications for three of Canada’s main economic-class immigration programs: Federal Skilled Worker Program, Federal Skilled Trades Program, and Canadian Experience Class.

Candidates who are eligible for Express Entry are given a Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score based on factors such as age, work experience, education, and official language proficiency.

The highest-scoring candidates are invited to apply for permanent residence through Express Entry draws, which usually happen every two weeks.

With a provincial nomination, Express Entry candidates receive an additional 600 points toward their overall CRS score. This bonus effectively guarantees that they will receive an Invitation to Apply (ITA) in a subsequent Express Entry draw.

To be considered for a provincial nomination from Manitoba, Express Entry candidates must submit a separate EOI profile to the MPNP and have eligible work experience in one of Manitoba’s in-demand occupations, among other requirements.

Manitoba’s Expression of Interest system

In order to be invited to apply for a provincial nomination from Manitoba through both the Skilled Workers in Manitoba and Skilled Workers Overseas categories, candidates need to register an EOI with the MPNP.

An EOI is an online profile that is ranked out of a score of 1,000. Points are awarded for a candidate’s education, work experience, connections to Manitoba and proficiency in English or French, among other factors.

In the latest draw, candidates invited under the Skilled Workers in Manitoba Stream had a score of 496.

The lowest-ranked candidate invited from the Skilled Workers Overseas Stream had a score of 672.

Skilled Workers Overseas and Skilled Workers in Manitoba

The Skilled Workers Overseas Category allows the MPNP to select and nominate skilled foreign workers who can help support Manitoba’s labour market.

Candidates must have an established connection to Manitoba such as close family or friends, previous education or work experience in the province, or an invitation through one of the MPNP’s Strategic Recruitment Initiatives, among other requirements.

They do not need to be in Manitoba at the time of application in order to be eligible.

The 13 candidates invited through the Skilled Workers Overseas Stream were invited directly by the MPNP under a Strategic Recruitment Initiative.

The 191 candidates invited through the Skilled Workers in Manitoba category must have a full-time, permanent job offer from a Manitoba employer, among other criteria.

International Education Stream

Manitoba international student graduates with in-demand skills may be invited under the International Education Stream.

This stream includes three sub-categories: Career Employment Pathway, Graduate Internship Pathway, and the Student Entrepreneur Pathway.
