About PTE Core

PTE Core is a general English test for immigration and citizenship applications and is approved and accepted by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) for economic immigration programs including:

  • Express Entry programs;
  • Permanent residency (PR); and
  • Citizenship.

PTE Core became available in Canada earlier this year. Currently, it has over 25 test centers in cities across Canada, including Vancouver, Surrey, Toronto, Hamilton, London, Ottawa, Halifax, and Montreal.

Tests are scored on a scale of 0-90, with 90 being the highest score. A Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) 9, for example, corresponds to a PTE score in the range of 82-88 for listening, 78-87 for reading, 84-88 in speaking, and 88-89 in writing.
