The Northwest Territories has received an additional 47 nominations for the Northwest Territories Nominee Program (NTNP) for this year.
This brings its total nomination spaces to 197, up from the 150 it was originally allocated for 2025.
The Government of the Northwest Territories announced the increased allocations in a news release on September 2, 2025.

These new slots will go to eligible applicants from the 2025 intake period who did not get selected.
The province will be assessing applications by order of work permit expiration date.
Eligible applicants will be notified by email and placed in the NTNP assessment queue.
“These additional 47 spaces will help fill critical labour shortages in key sectors,” said Caitlin Cleveland, the Northwest Territories Minister of Education, Culture and Employment, in the news release.
About the NTNP
The NTNP has three application streams, including the Employer-Driven stream, the Francophone stream, and the Business stream.
The Employer-Driven stream contains three categories:
- The Entry Level / Semi-Skilled Occupations category;
- The Skilled Worker category; and
- The NWT Express Entry category.
Each stream has its own eligibility criteria and other requirements candidates (and in some cases, employers) must meet in order to qualify, which can be found here.
To be considered under the Employer-Driven and Francophone streams, foreign nationals must have a qualifying job offer from a NWT employer.
The Employer-Driven stream requires a NWT employer to apply on behalf of an immigration candidate—foreign nationals cannot apply to this stream directly on their own.
The Francophone stream and the Business stream, on the other hand, are not employer-driven, meaning foreign nationals can submit an application on their own behalf. For the business stream, candidates must have plans to open, purchase, or invest in and operate a NWT business.
For 2025, the province held two application intake periods:
Intake period 1: February 27 to March 6, 2025.
Intake period 2: July 2 to July 9, 2025.
Like other provincial and territorial nominee programs, the NTNP saw its allocation of nominations cut in half in 2025 compared to 2024: from 300 to 150.
Several nominee programs have been successful in negotiating for increased allocations from the federal government in 2025, including those of Newfoundland and Labrador, New Brunswick, Saskatchewan, and the Yukon.
