High-skilled foreign nationals with a job offer from eight specific Canadian companies qualify for a Labour Market Impact Assessment*-exempt work permit—meaning these companies can facilitate the issuance of employer-specific work permits with greater ease than other employers in Canada.
That’s because these eight companies are all participating in the Global Hypergrowth Project, making them eligible for a five-year employer-specific work permit under the Innovation Stream.
The GHP is an initiative launched by the government of Canada to help innovative companies scale up and give them greater access to key foreign workers.

This week, Canada extended the Innovation Stream pilot for two more years. It is now slated to continue to operate until March 22, 2028.
* Labour Market Impact Assessments (LMIAs) are labour market tests that support the hiring of a foreign national in Canada. To obtain one, employers need to meet multiple additional requirements under the Temporary Foreign Worker Program (TFWP). The ability to enable the issuance of LMIA-exempt work permits allows employers to side-step much of this extra work.
