Operating hours will “fall back” this season for 26 land ports of entry (POEs) to Alberta, British Columbia, and Manitoba.

The revised hours will be in effect from November 1, 2026, to March 14, 2027, according to online news releases published by the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) on October 9, 2026.

These adjustments are intended to keep service hours aligned with neighbouring U.S. POEs as the states adjoining the three provincial borders continue to change their clocks seasonally—while all Canadian provinces from Manitoba to British Columbia have made the shift to permanent daylight saving time.

Hours of operation at the 26 affected POEs will continue to be adjusted to align with the fall and spring shifts south of the border.

The CBSA notes that if a POE is closed at the time of travel, individuals can use an alternative crossing that remains open.

In the United States, the House of Representatives passed the Sunshine Protection Act in July 2026, which would establish permanent daylight saving time across the country, though the legislation has yet to receive Senate approval.

On October 13, 2026, Ontario announced plans to adopt permanent daylight saving time in Kenora and parts of northwestern Ontario beginning November 1, 2026, while noting that any province-wide shift would require coordination with neighbouring jurisdictions, including Quebec and New York State.
