Q. I was admitted to my current country of residence for a period of 6 months. I then was able to extend the duration of this admission by another 6 months. Am I allowed to submit my application to the visa office responsible for my current country of residence?

Federal Immigration Minister Denis Coderre said Monday Canada is facing a
shortage of skilled workers and companies are beginning to realize it’s
important to integrate immigrants into the workforce. Coderre said Ottawa
is now working with the provinces to devise a plan that would allow foreign
professionals to be accredited in Canada.

Effect of Sept 18th Changes

Q. I would like to know what are the impacts of the new guidelines issued on Sept 18 on Transitional Cases.

I had applied for Immigration under Independent Category in Nov 2001.

On Feb 2002 Received the acknowledgment card from the Canadian High commission London.On July 2002 Received intimation that Interview is required and the Intimation about the interview will be given one to two month prior.

The last Information I received is that the High commission is unable to conduct Interview before 31st March 2003.

I am still waiting for the decision about the Interview or any waiver of the Interview.

Please Guide me as to what will happen now after the new guidelines issued on September 18th.

At the time of implementation of the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act of June 28th 2002, a transitional period was specified in the legislation. This period was recommend by Canadian Parliament as a necessary measure to allow as much of the existing backlog as possible to be cleared out under the Regulations in effect at the time that applications had been made. This transitional period will end on March 31st 2003, at which time all applicants who have not received an interview waiver, or attended a successful selection interview, will be subject to the new selection criteria described at the following here.

Regulation 11

The Immigration and Refugee Protection Act and Regulations implemented June 28th 2001 included legislation allowing Citizenship and Immigration Canada to restrict submission of immigration applications. Applicants would be required to submit the application only in a country in which they have resident status for a period for one year or more.

Canadian ports of entry are directing Refugee applicants seeking admission from the United States back to the USA with an appointment to return for a hearing at a later date.
