Three Canadian provinces have issued candidates invitations to apply for their respective Provincial Nominee Programs (PNPs) this week.

The PNP was introduced in 1998 to spread the benefits of immigration across Canada. It does so by sharing responsibility for immigration between the federal governement and provinces and territories.

Today, it is one of the leading ways to immigrate to Canada as a skilled worker.

Being nominated by a province does not grant permanent resident (PR) status. Candidates nominated by a province still have to go through Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC).

However, it does help strengthen a candidate’s application. Express Entry candidates who receive a provincial nomination get an additional 600 Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) points, which almost guarantees an invitation to apply (ITA) in an upcoming Express Entry draw.

Ontario

On October 8, the Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP), issued invitations to candidates who qualify for the Employer Job Offer: Foreign Worker Stream.

In addition, the province issued 841 invitations  under the same stream in a targeted draw for other priority occupations. To receive an invitation, candidates needed a score of 52 or higher, as well as a job offer in a priority occupation. A range of priority occupations, sorted by NOC code, can be seen here.

British Columbia
