British Columbia holds largest provincial immigration selection round this year

On July 16, the British Columbia Provincial Nominee Program (BCPNP) invited a total of 569 candidates to apply for provincial nomination.

Invitations were issued to individuals who qualified under one of two selection factors: wage or salary tied to a TEER 0–3 job offer, or profile registration score.

The province has now held 16 selection rounds in 2026, with Skills Immigration (SI) candidates targeted in nine of them.

This draw saw the highest proportion of registration score-based invitations of any SI round held by the BCPNP in 2026.

These selection factors are part of British Columbia’s Innovate initiative, under which the province issues high economic impact invitations to “top talent in all sectors.”

British Columbia did not publish the occupations or sectors of candidates who received invitations in this selection round.

The province notes that future SI rounds may target candidates according to different provincial priorities. Selection may be based on one or more of the following:

• The level, field, and location of a candidate’s education;
• A professional designation held in the province;
• Duration and skill level of the candidate’s work experience;
• Language ability;
• Occupation;
• The wage and/or skill level of the candidate’s job offer;
• Intention to establish residence and employment in a specific region; and/or
• Strategic priorities related to provincial labour market needs, government pilots, or other initiatives.

This year British Columbia has held six SI draws based on these same selection criteria, and three draws targeting candidates in high-demand occupations.

As of July 16, the province has sent out at least 3,676 invitations to apply for provincial nomination through its SI category.

Makeup of the Skills Immigration registration pool

To be considered under the SI category, foreign nationals must first submit a registration, or Expression of Interest profile.

Candidates are assigned a score based on the information provided in their registration and placed in the relevant registration pool(s).

The province periodically selects candidates from these pools and invites them to apply for provincial nomination.
