British Columbia extends registration deadline for time-limited permanent residence pathway
British Columbia has extended the registration deadline for its Temporary Rural/Remote Health Support Initiative (TRHSI) to midnight on October 7, 2026.
Registration for the TRHSI, which provides a pathway to permanent residence (PR) for cleaners and security staff employed by a B.C. health authority, was originally set to close on August 31, 2026.

The British Columbia Provincial Nominee Program (BCPNP) intends to nominate up to 250 eligible workers through this time-limited PR pathway.
Registration for the TRHSI opened on June 15 of this year, and since then, 60 candidates have been invited to apply for provincial nomination through the initiative.
The Government of British Columbia announced the extension on the BCPNP news updates webpage on August 13.
According to the news update, “This extension is being made to account for any wildfire-related impacts.”
About the Temporary Rural/Remote Health Support Initiative
British Columbia first announced the TRHSI as part of a major overhaul to its provincial nominee program in April 2026, which included a renewed focus on healthcare professionals.
The pathway is open to foreign nationals with a full-time job offer from a B.C. health authority in a qualifying rural or remote area, in one of the following three occupations:
- Janitors, caretakers, and heavy-duty cleaners (NOC 65312).
- Light-duty cleaners (NOC 65310).
- Security guards and related security service occupations (NOC 64410).
A qualifying rural or remote area is one that does not fall within the Central Okanagan Regional District, Metro Vancouver Regional District, or the Capital Regional District.
For the Capital Regional District, certain exceptions are in place: Galiano Island, Mayne Island, Pender Island, Salt Spring Island, and Saturna Island.
There is a total of eight public health authorities in British Columbia that cleaning and security workers can be employed by:
- First Nations Health Authority.
- Fraser Health.
- Interior Health.
- Island Health.
- Northern Health.
- Providence Health Care.
- Provincial Health Services Authority.
- Vancouver Coastal Health.
Each public health authority has its own process to determine which provincial nomination applications it will support. B.C. public health authorities are not required to support BCPNP applications.
Consideration under the TRHSI is dependent on individuals meeting all requirements related to job offer and work experience, including having a minimum of nine months of full-time experience in an eligible occupation prior to registration, gained while working with a B.C. health authority.
In addition to meeting the work experience criteria, candidates must have a high school diploma, meet the minimum income requirement throughout the nine months before registering and applying, and satisfy all other general requirements for Skills Immigration candidates.

Individuals who are nominated by the BCPNP through the TRHSI can then apply to the federal government for permanent residence.
