Manitoba selects 600 tradespeople and transportation workers for provincial track to permanent residence

On August 27, the Manitoba Provincial Nominee Program (MPNP) invited 741 foreign nationals to apply for provincial immigration, including

• 600 candidates across a broad range of trades and transportation occupations;
• 62 candidates in select healthcare and transportation occupations;
• 21 French-speaking candidates; and
• 58 strategically recruited candidates.

Those who received Letters of Advice to Apply (LAAs) for provincial nomination have up to 60 days to respond by submitting a complete application to the MPNP.

Foreign nationals who are selected by Manitoba as provincial nominees can request work permit support letters, which they can use to apply to the federal government for work permits.

Of the 741 candidates invited in this selection round, 150 declared a valid Express Entry profile number and job seeker validation code in their Expression of Interest (EOI) profile.

Skilled Worker in Manitoba

Under this category, the MPNP issued invitations to apply to in-province workers who, in their EOI profile, indicated one of the following to be true:

• Employment in one of two specific occupations; or
  • Bus drivers and transit operators (73301).
  • General practitioners and family physicians (31102).
• Employment in an occupation falling under major group 72 in the NOC system, which refers to technical trades and transportation officers and controllers.

The province issued 600 invitations based on employment falling under major group 72, and 62 invitations based on employment in NOC 73301 or 31102.

There are eight sub-major groups that fall under major group 72, which are further broken down into specific occupations and codes—all of which were considered in this draw.

Overall, occupation-specific selections accounted for 89.3% of all invitations issued in the August 27 draw.

Skilled Worker Stream

A total of 58 skilled workers, in Manitoba and overseas, received invitations on the basis of having been invited by the MPNP through:

• A strategic recruitment initiative; or
• The now-expired Temporary Public Policy to Facilitate Work Permits for Prospective Provincial Nominee Candidates (TPP).

Candidates invited through the Employer Services initiative represented the largest share of the draw, at approximately 48.3%:

Overall, selection based on invitation by the MPNP through a recruitment initiative accounted for about 7.8% of all LAAs issued.

Francophone selection

The province invited 21 French-speaking candidates to apply for provincial nomination.

To have been selected for an LAA, candidates needed to have indicated in their profile that:

• Their language of communication with the MPNP was French; and
• They held valid French language test results.

Candidates selected based on French-language ability represented about 2.8% of all invitations issued.
