A new rating system matching open job positions with job seekers has come into effect. As of August 28, employers hiring under the Temporary Foreign Worker Program (TFWP) must use the new system and invite potential hires who meet a certain threshold of compatibility with the job posting to apply for the position advertised. Starting August 31, Canadians will be able to identify as neither male nor female when applying for a passport. In addition, other documents issued by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) will include an ‘X’. A total of 3,035 candidates for immigration to Canada have been issued an Invitation to Apply (ITA) for permanent residence in the latest draw from the Express Entry pool, which took place on August 23. The Canadian province of Saskatchewan has increased the annual application intake thresholds for two popular immigration sub-categories of the Saskatchewan Immigrant Nominee Program (SINP), with more applications likely to be accepted before the end of 2017.

A new Canadian immigration stream has been launched by the government of Ontario. The Employer Job Offer In-Demand Skills Stream, which was announced on August 16 and opened the same day, is a pilot for workers in high-demand occupations with a job offer in Ontario.
The Employer Job Offer In-Demand Skills Stream is part of the Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP), which allows Ontario to nominate individuals for immigration to Canada based on criteria set by the province.
The current list of occupations includes occupations in the agriculture and construction sectors. [Read more…]
Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has invited 2,991 candidates in the Express Entry pool to apply for permanent residence in the second draw to take place so far this August.
Candidates with 433 or more Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) points will receive an Invitation to Apply (ITA) as a result of the August 9 draw. This is the lowest CRS cut-off threshold since May, and therefore the lowest since changes to the CRS — including the introduction of additional points for French speakers and candidates with a sibling in Canada — were implemented in early June.
