Selected candidates can apply to the AAIP for provincial nomination, and if successful, to the federal government for permanent residence (PR).

Nominees within Canada who’ve submitted a PR application may also qualify for a Bridging Open Work Permit (BOWP).

Candidates selected through the AAIP's non-Express Entry streams and pathways may qualify for earlier access to BOWPs under a temporary federal measure effective June 9, 2026.

The Oct. 23 selection round had the lowest invitation volume among all Rural Renewal Stream draws conducted in 2026.

Of these five selection rounds, four corresponded to Alberta's priority areas for 2026, targeting health care candidates and those eligible under the Rural Renewal Stream.

Following these draws, the province has held 95 selection rounds over the course of 2026:

As of Nov. 2, the AAIP had invited no fewer than 14,584 candidates to apply for provincial nomination.

The AAIP’s nomination issuances

Alberta had used approximately 92.5% of its 2026 provincial nomination allocation by Nov. 4, having issued 6,108 nominations out of 6,603 available spaces, according to the AAIP's Processing Information web page.

The province's allocation was initially set at 6,403 spaces, before an increase of 200 was announced in early August.

As of the AAIP’s latest data update, there were 495 nomination spaces remaining, and 756 applications awaiting processing in its inventory.

It’s important to note that nomination figures differ from invitation totals, as candidates invited through AAIP selection rounds must first submit an application and obtain approval before receiving a provincial nomination certificate. This process can take several months.

Annual allocations determine how many nominations a province can issue, rather than how many candidates it can invite to apply.

Alberta has also issued nominations to 50 practice-ready physicians and 12 francophone candidates using supplementary spaces separate from its regular allocation.
