Ontario and Prince Edward Island have issued invitations to apply to candidates through Provincial Nominee Programs (PNPs) this week.

Through PNPs interested candidates may be invited to apply for a provincial nomination. While it isn't the same as a permanent residence, it can help a candidate gain permanent residence from Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC).

The PNP began in 1998 and  accounts for over 80,000 PR admissions per year.  PNP admissions in Canada each year is because the federal and provincial governments consider it useful in promoting  economic development outside of areas with high immigrant populations.

Ontario

On October 25, the Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP) invited 535 candidates from the Masters Graduate Stream. Candidates required a score of 35 and above.

The province also invited 106 candidates from the PhD Graduate stream with minimum scores of 24. This was the first draw for both streams since August 30.

To be eligible for these streams candidates in this stream must meet a baseline of eligibility criteria such as the following:

  • Must have a masters degree from an eligible university in Ontario
  • Language requirement: CLB level 7 or higher (English or French)
  • Must have legally lived in Ontario for at least one year in the past two years

Ontario is Canada’s  welcomes the most newcomers of any province each year. It is allocated the largest number of invitations to apply available under any PNP in Canada.

Prince Edward Island

On October 20, Prince Edward Island invited 194 candidates through the provincial Labour and Express Entry streams. It also invited  10 through the Business Work Permit Entrepreneur streams. Candidates in the Business Work Permit Entrepreneur stream required a minimum score of 72.

EOI profiles are awarded a score based on PEI’s points grid and, like the Express Entry Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS), the highest-ranked candidates are invited to apply through monthly draws.

Prince Edward Island holds draws through the PEI PNP each month.
