Ontario, British Columbia, and Manitoba have issued invitations to apply to candidates through Provincial Nominee Programs (PNPs) this week.

Receiving a provincial nomination can be advantageous for becoming a permanent resident of Canada. All Canadian provinces and territories, except Nunavut and Quebec, have their own PNP's to select the candidates they feel will most easily integrate into the provincial labour force.

Quebec administers it's own economic immigration programs and is the only province that has control over all economic class immigrants.

The Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) began in 1998 and has come to admit more than 105,000 new permanent residents each year. Both federal and provincial governments see the program as a good way to spread economic development outside of urban centers that typically already have a high number of newcomers.
